Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Part C (Medicare advantage plans) combines the Part A and Part B options and covers most medically necessary services.
What do these plans do that Parts A and B don't? Basically, an advantage plan allows you to opt out of government provided Medicare coverage and enroll in a plan with a private insurance company such as Blue Cross or Anthem. These plans are typically designed to provide Medicare-like coverage while closing some of its uncovered gaps. Different plans are available, many of which also include prescription drug coverage under Part D.
Is This Coverage Available to Me?
To be eligible for a Medicare Part C plan, you must pay your premiums for and stay enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. There are, however, deadlines for enrollment, penalties for late enrollment and complicated timing issues and plan options that should be discussed with an experienced attorney before you have to make the choice to enroll or not.
